Honoring Innovation in the Field of Education



Republic of Indonesia (RI) some time ago has been repeated year 54. A perfect moment to measure the success of the Indonesian nation. One moment which is also right for discussing areas that have been the subject of ongoing controversy, namely education.


We've engaged with the debate about the new curriculum, books, teaching and learning quality, the number passing the national exam, infrastructure and the percentage of education budget to the budget revenue and expenditure (APBN). Part of the problem until now has not resolved and apparently will never be finished.


We saw one of the inhibiting factor is the limited budget. This is because the government has more than one generation is required to pay the loan installments, interest, or principal debt. The numbers continue to grow to influence the allocation of funds for the posts in the State Budget.


Debt bondage is so strong that only the SBY-JK government budget allocations for education only reaches 20%. That was probably more due to political will, not because of budget flexibility.


Ironically, the budget allocations that have been fought over the years had not been adequate. This is mainly due to already menggunungnya dilemma in the education sector.


In the midst of various obstacles and complexity of this breakthrough effort has emerged. Breakthrough is needed to overcome the backwardness and the pursuit of progress.


Though surprising breakthroughs are needed because proven able to raise the "strength" hidden among the students. The decision to raise graduation rates for example, is an example of such a breakthrough.


Efforts of certain parties in order to accommodate students who have the intelligence and special talents are also a form of breakthrough. This is a smart move to "draw" out of potential students from the neighborhood ordinary.


This withdrawal will allow the parties concerned to develop their potential to the highest level. In the end the benefit not only students, but also the nation and state.


According to the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), in 2006there were nearly 60 million children of school age, while those with special qualifications smart about one million children. What are underserved and developed keistimewaannya it? Probably very little, did not reach one percent.


We should be concerned, that inability to cause other governments have deliberately accommodate them, not only at the college level, but also high school students with various facilities. The adherents of the principle of unlimited state to justify it, but those who have the spirit of nationalism felt heart.


The government did not keep silence, through 20Tahun Law No. 2003 on National Education System, realized the importance of attention to students who have the talent and exceptional intelligence. In Article 5Paragraph 4, for example, stated that citizens have the intelligence and special talents memeroleh eligible special education.


We should be delighted with the recognition of the above, but do not be too happy because the recognition is extended not necessarily identical to the provision of aid as expected. The government, as has been stated, has been remarkably burdened many problems that can not focus on the education sector alone.


Behind the lack of it, all parties including the government and most of the relevant department officials, should continue to support every effort to accommodate the domestic private sector children's intelligence and special talents. Let's racing to get ahead!
